Prof. Rashid Hamed Al Balushi, chairman of Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) met HE Somaira Chowdhury, UNICEF representative to Oman.
The meeting included an introduction presentation on the Commission and its mandates, the Reporting and Monitoring mechanism, and OHRC’s memberships in regional and international human rights organizations. The meeting also discussed the role of OHRC in raising human rights awareness and education as well as promoting and protecting human rights as per the Basic Statute of the State and the human rights conventions and charters that Oman has acceded to.
The UNICEF representative expressed her appreciation for receiving her at the Commission and explained the role of the UNICEF in supporting the states and institutions in relation to promoting child rights, as well as supporting the development of child programs in the fields of education and child rights awareness.
The meeting was attended by the lawyer Mr. Saud Saleh Al Maawali, OHRC’s Deputy Chairman, Ms. Shadha Abdulmajeed Al Zadjali, Director of Organizations and International Relations at OHRC, and Ms. Khadija Said Al Kindi, Media and Communication Officer at the UNICEF.
