In the presence of the President of the Qatari National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI): The inauguration of the Seminar “The Role of National Mechanisms in Promoting and Protecting Human Rights”
Tomorrow (Monday), the Seminar “The Role of National Mechanisms in Promoting and Protecting Human Rights” will be launched in W Muscat Hotel organized by the “Oman Human Rights Commission) OHRC in cooperation with the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) and in the presence of HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah the President of GANHRI, ANNHRI and NHRC in the State of Qatar. During the Seminar, nine worksheets will be presented in three sessions for two days. The worksheets will be presented by lecturers who represent ANNHRI, the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development, the Royal Oman Police, the Public Prosecution, the Children First Association, and the Oman Association for Disabled, in addition to lecturers from the OHRC. More than 100 participants representing the government authorities and institutions, civil society institutions, and other concerned entities will take part in the works of the Seminar. The Seminar aims to make known the national mechanisms concerned with protecting and promoting human rights, enhance the cooperation and partnership between the OHRC and other concerned entities, highlight the role of the OHRC with the governmental and non-governmental organizations, explain the contractual and non-contractual human rights mechanisms and how to submit their reports, in addition to explaining the role of the government authorities and civil society institutions in this regard, raising the efficiency of the participants in implementing and practicing the policies to achieve the goals of protecting and promoting human rights, discussing efforts, exchanging the best practices to overcome the challenges and ensuring the optimal execution of the contents of the regional and international instruments as well as enhancing the cooperation mechanisms at both the national and international levels. Furthermore, the Seminar aims to implement the goals of (Oman Vision 2040) particularly the strategic goal represented in building a society whose members are responsible, committed to their duties and aware of their rights. The Seminar also aims to discuss successful experiences, and exchange expertise among the entities participating in the field of human rights, in addition to highlighting the role of OHRC and different media which make significant efforts in following up on human rights issues.
