Oman Human Rights Commission meet with the detainees in Bawshar Police Station
A team from the OHRC, which encompassed a group of the Commissions members and employees, met with the detainees in Bawshar Police Station; this comes in the context of field visits that the Commission conducts to the Omani Royal Police’ detention centers. The OHRC team listened to the statements of the detainees, got acquainted with the cases which they have been arrested for, and exchanged with them conversations regarding their rights and legal privileges, particularly their right to contact with their parents and assign an attorney to follow up their cases. The Commission’ team was received upon arrival at the Bawshar Police Station by Colonel/ Abdul Hakim bin Khalid Al Hosani, Assistant Commander of the Muscat Governorate Police, and Lt. Col./ Ahmed bin Rashid Al Kasbi, Officer of the Bawshar Police Station, and a number of officers/ employees of the station. The team was welcomed and introduced to the services provided to the detainees, in accordance with the laws in force in this regard. The OHRC praises the steps taken by the Royal Oman Police to reduce the number of detainees at Bawshar Police Station, and their transfer to other detention centers; as currently, the center houses a limited number of detainees. At the same time, the OHRC would like to extends its appreciations to Royal Oman Police for their continuous cooperation and facilitating the OHRC tasks.
