“Oman Human Rights Commission” organizes a workshop on three international conventions that Oman Joined

During the period 25-27 September, the OHRC organizes a workshop in W Muscat on the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights which were ratified by the Sultanate of Oman by the Royal Decree issued by His Majesty Sultan Hitham bin Tariq-May Allah Protect Him- at the beginning of 2020 AD. The Inauguration of the workshop is under the auspices of HE Sheikh / Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Diplomatic Affairs. The worksheets are presented by officials from the United Nations the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and lecturers representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Economy, the Oman Royal Police, the Public Prosecutor, the Omani Lawyers Association and Oman Human Rights Commission. Participants representing the Judiciary, the State Council and the Consultative Council, government institutions, the Oman Royal Police, the Public Prosecutor, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the National Center for Statistical Information, the Oman Vision 2024 Implementation Follow-up Unit, the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, the General Federation of Oman Workers, UN Population Fund, several institutions of civil society and several academics, and researchers in the field of human rights in addition to the personnel of OHRC will take part in the sessions of the workshop. The workshop aims to introduce the three conventions and the contained provisions that serve human rights and explain the national mechanisms related to the follow-up on their implementation through the optimum use of the international standards and contractual instruments and highlight the importance of compliance with policies and practices for preventing torture, enforced disappearance and ensuring the mechanisms of criminal investigation in accordance with the standards and controls of human rights, in addition to ensuring the economic, social and cultural rights. This workshop also aims to promote the means of cooperation and coordination between the entities concerned with the implementation of these conventions and the OHRC.
