A delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission participated in the international conference on the role of national human rights institutions in the implementation and follow-up of the sustainable development goals. The conference was organized by the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions in cooperation with the National Council for Human Rights in the Arab Republic of Egypt during the period 26-27 of June in Sharm el sheikh city.
The conference aimed to enhance the role of national institutions and enable them to follow up on the implementation of the sustainable development goals, identify the most important challenges facing national human rights institutions, and define priorities and needs. The conference also discussed strengthening the role of regional and international networks and organizations, defining the role of governments in harmonizing laws and policies to implement the sustainable development goals. The conference aimed at proposing recommendations that contribute to developing a concept and action plan for capacity-building and enhancing cooperation with relevant authorities in their implementation.
The conference reviewed the experiences of national institutions and some NGOs on the follow-up and implementation of the sustainable development goals. The conference also reviewed the challenges facing organizations and United Nations bodies concerned with achieving the sustainable development goals.
Oman Human Rights Commission was represented at the conference by a delegation headed by Dr. Sulaiman bin Hamad Al-Alawi, Vice-Chairman of the Commission and included Mr. Ahmed Abdullah Al-Shanfari, member of the Commission, Labiba Muhammad Al-Alawi, member of the Commission, and Mr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Rashdi, Director of the Monitoring and Reporting at OHRC.
