A team from Oman Human Rights Commission, led by Professor Rashid bin Hamad Al Balushi, Chairman of the Commission, along with several members and staff, visited the detention center in the Wilayat of Rustaq, South Al Batinah Governorate. This visit was part of the Commission’s responsibilities to monitor the humanitarian conditions of detainees and the services provided to them in accordance with the relevant laws.
The team was received by Brigadier General Mohammed bin Awad Al Shanferi, Commander of the South Al Batinah Police, and Lieutenant Colonel Nabil bin Salem Al Amri, Director of the Detention Center, along with other officials. The team was briefed on the services provided to detainees and was shown around the building and its different sections.
These visits reflect the Commission’s mandate to monitor human rights and freedoms in Oman by conducting field visits to prisons and detention centers to assess human rights conditions.
