

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) constantly seeks to disseminate and promote the culture of human rights in the Sultanate. Believing in the importance of their role in the development of the society, women gained wide attention from the Commission on the Omani Women Day. NHRC celebrated by promoting women rights through various media such as lectures, symposiums, discussion sessions, training programs, meetings and visits as well as distributing NHRC publications.
The Sultanate ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 2005 to protect their rights and confirm the importance of their role in the Omani society. The convention includes 30 articles that aim to consider taking special measures to build a universal community free of discrimination against women, and to achieve justice and equality between men and women in political, social, economic, cultural, civil, public and private life without any discrimination on grounds of gender, religion, language, race, age, or social level.
Moreover, the Commission participated in number of training workshops about enabling women, organized by human rights institutes and committees. NHRC also conducted workshops that aimed to educate women about the mechanisms of human rights protection and the role of the Commission in this regard.
