The OHRC delegation, led by Minister Plenipotentiary Aqeel bin Alawi Baamar, concluded its engagement in the fifty-third meeting of the Arab Standing Committee on Human Rights. The meeting took place in the Qatari capital, Doha, and saw the attendance of member states of the League of Arab States as well as Arab national institutions on human rights.
At the conclusion of its work, the meeting recommended denouncing the ongoing atrocities perpetrated by Israeli aggression against the Palestinian populace, as well as its expansion into other Arab nations. The condemnations encompassed the targeting of tens of thousands of civilians, the imposition of a lethal siege upon the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, leading to dire humanitarian conditions, and the systematic devastation of residential areas, hospitals, schools, universities, mosques, churches and infrastructure. The Israeli aggression aimed to render the Gaza Strip uninhabitable, fueled by hate speech, racism, and incitement propagated by the Israeli occupation government. Furthermore, the meeting welcomed the establishment of the “Arab Forum for National Mechanisms for Implementation, Reporting, and Follow-up,” aiming to bolster collaboration, partnership, and the exchange of experiences and best practices relevant to these mechanisms across all Arab nations.
Additionally, at the end of its work, the meeting called for intensified efforts in implementing the action plan outlined in the Arab Strategy for Human Rights, in cooperation and consultation between stakeholders involved in human rights matters at both national and regional levels within the Arab world.
The OHRC delegation comprised Dr. Jamal bin Eid Al-Khuduri and Ms. Labiba bint Mohammed Al-Mawaliya, both members of the OHRC, alongside Salim bin Khalfan Al-Rushdi, Head of the OHRC Information Department.
