The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) holds its fourth quarter meeting
The OHRC hold its fourth quarter meeting under the chairmanship of Honorable Sheikh/ Abdullah bin Shuwain al-Husani, Chairman of the OHRC. The meeting was attended by the Chairman Secretary-General and OHRC members. The meeting discussed a set of topics, including the current preparations to organize a forum on the role of national mechanisms in the promotion and protection of Human Rights, to be held next June, which aims to review efforts, exchange best practices, strengthen cooperation mechanisms at the national and international levels, exhibit successful experiences, and exchange experiences among the participating bodies in the field of Human Rights. The meeting also discussed the workshop that the Commission intends to hold in the coming period regarding the three international conventions that the Sultanate of Oman has recently acceded to in the field of Human Rights, namely the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. In addition, the meeting reviewed the participation of the Commission in the membership of the main committee for the elections of members of municipal councils, and other topics related to monitoring and receiving reports, Human Rights awareness and education, and the external and internal participation of the Commission during the coming period.
