An OHRC delegation participates in the international conference regarding
The International Solidarity and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was held in the Arab Republic of Egypt and organized by the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, and the National Human Right Committee of the State of Qatar, in cooperation with the National Council for Human Rights in Egypt, the Arab League, the OHCHR, and the United Nations Development Programme.
The conference was attended by experts and representatives of all of the 15 National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) that are members of the Arab Network, and a number of representatives of NHRIs that are members of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), and the African Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI). The conference was also attended by representatives of the Charter Committee and the Arab Institute for Human Rights, representatives of the Arab League, statistics and parliamentarians’ institutions, human rights institutes, international and national organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and development partners.
This conference was organized with the aim of encouraging the countries of the Arab region to achieve further progress towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through the provision of resources and the development and implementation of plans in partnership with various development sectors.
During the conference, experts, practitioners and representatives of participating institutions presented study papers on the role of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) and United Nations agencies in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a review of the experiences in the region, the centrality of Goal 16, indicators of sustainable development. It was also note the importance of cooperation and interaction between national institutions, civil society and statistical departments.
The participants in the conference affirmed that development is indivisible and that the sustainable development goals are so interrelated that one cannot be achieved without the other. However, there is a recognition of the centrality of Goal 16 as a fundamental goal that enables the achievement of the other goals, and standing on the fact that development cannot be achieved without peace and security.
The delegation of the Commission was headed by Sheikh Dr/ Hilal bin Said Al-Shithani, Chairman of the Commission on International Organizations and Relations. The members of the delegation were His Excellency Sheikh Dr/ Hamoud bin Ahmed Al-Yahyai, member of the OHRC, and Mr. Al-Moather bin Ahmed Al-Siyabi from the Department of International Organizations and Relations, and Salem bin Khalfan Al-Roshdi from the Public Relations and Information Department of the OHRC.
