Under the patronage of His Highness Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the Regional Forum on the Role of National Human Rights Institutions in Planning and Monitoring the Implementation of National Visions Related to Human Rights will launch next Wednesday in Salalah from July 24 to July 25, 2024.
The forum, organized by Oman Human Rights Commission in collaboration with the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar and the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, is co-hosted with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee.
More than 50 institutions and organizations from the United Nations, international and regional organizations, stakeholders, national human rights institutions, governmental bodies and civil society organizations participate in the Forum.
In his statement, Professor Rashid bin Hamad Al-Balushi, Chairman of Oman Human Rights Commission, emphasized the significance of the forum, stating, “We are proud to host this important forum, bringing together experts and specialists from around the world. This is the first regional forum to discuss the role of human rights institutions in planning and monitoring the implementation of national visions in areas related to human rights. The forum will focus on national visions, best practices, and challenges, aiming to assist decision-makers in formulating appropriate plans in the field of human rights, empowering human rights institutions in their roles, and making national visions aimed at building integrated societies that guarantee human rights a reality.”
The Chairman of Oman Human Rights Commission expressed his gratitude to local entities supporting this major event, including the Secretariat General of the Council of Ministers, the Office of His Highness the Governor of Dhofar, the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Monitoring Unit, the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Economy, Dhofar Municipality, and all participating government entities and civil society organizations.
