National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) held a press conference, presided by Dr. Obaid Al Shaqsi, NHRC secretary general, and number of Commission’s members in NHRC headquarter, to announce the start date of the human rights awareness program; beginning from Dhofar on 16 August 2015. The awareness program includes field visits and meetings with several governmental institutions in Dhofar such as the Office of the State Minister and Governor of Dhofar, as well as civil society and private institutions. The program will also include various awareness activities in the NHRC corner at Salalah Tourism Festival 2015. Such awareness programs are great opportunities to disseminate the culture of human rights among all segments in the society, define rights and duties, and meet with representatives from several governmental and civil society institutions by reaching them at their workplace.
Through its awareness program, NHRC aims to disseminate and promote the culture of human rights, define the Commission and its efforts in relation to human rights, solidify the trust relationship between NHRC and the society, cooperate with civil society and governmental institutions in all governorates in the field of human rights promotion and protection, educate the society on human rights notion according to national legislations and international charters, build the abilities in relation to human rights protection and responsibilities, discuss the concerns of the society in relation to human rights, activate the roles of civil society institutions, media, educational institutions in the field of human rights education.
