OHRC participated with a working group headed by Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain Al Hosni, OHRC Chairman, in the universal periodic review (UPR) presented by the Sultanate to the Human Rights Council in Geneva via video conference.
The Sultanate’s delegation was headed by Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Saidi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, who delivered the Sultanate’s speech before the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Al-Saidi highlighted the progress made by the Sultanate in the field of human rights since the second periodic review in 2015 until now. He also shed light on the most important achievements in the field of human rights in the Sultanate.
All UN member states submit a review once every four years. The national human rights committees participate as observers in the universal periodic review submitted by the countries of the world. UPRs always review the most important measures they have taken in the field of human rights, adherence to international conventions and conventions that have ratified, acceded, or signed as well as the efforts to promote the rights of workers, women and children, people with disabilities, the elderly, and all segments of society.
OHRC team included a number of OHRC members, department managers and staff working on law, monitoring and reporting, organizations, international relations, outreach, education and information.
