A joint meeting was held at the headquarters of the OHRC today between Honorable Sheikh/ Abdullah bin Shuwain Al-Hosani, Chairman of the OHRC, Dr/ Muhammad bin Mubarak Al-Araimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Journalists Association and a number of the Association members. The Meeting was attended by Mr/ Saeed bin Salem Al-Nomani, Secretary General of the Commission, Sheikh Dr/ Hilal bin Saeed Al-Shaidani, memeber of the Commission, and a number of Commission’ specialists.
As the meeting started, the Honorable Sheikh/ Chairman of the Commission, greeted the delegation of the Oman Journalists Association, expressing his appreciation for the positive role of the association with regard to the press and media on the local and international arenas, which witnessed remarkable activity recently. The Sheikh also expressed his interest in establishing joint cooperation between the two parties.
From the other part, Dr. Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Journalists Association, expressed his appreciation for the role played by the OHRC and its efforts in serving the Omani society and cooperation with relevant international institutions.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed the role played by the Association through the Committee on Freedoms and International Relations in the context of the freedoms issue, and exchanged information on the issue of freedoms between the Association and the Special Committee for the annual report on freedoms. It was also presented in the meeting a proposal to hold joint sessions between the Association and the Committee, participate together in external meetings and seminars related to the topic of freedoms, hold a joint annual forum on the status of freedoms in the Sultanate of Oman, conduct periodic meetings between the two sides, and collect a working group from the two sides.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to prepare a draft to be a memorandum of understanding between the two sides on a joint cooperation mechanism.
