US Undersecretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Visits Oman Human Rights Commission

H.E. Sheikh/ Hamid bin Ali Al Maani, Deputy Chairman of the OHRC, met with H.E. Ezra Zia, the US Undersecretary for Civil Security, Democracy and Human Rights at the Commission’s headquarters.

During the meeting, they discussed aspects of joint cooperation between the OHRC and the human rights authorities in the United States. The OHRC Deputy Chairman also explained to the US Undersecretary a part of the work of the Commission, its terms of reference, and its new work system issued by Royal Decree No. (2022/57), its role in receiving and monitoring communications, and its efforts in raising awareness and educating regarding human rights. During the meeting, the US Undersecretary mentioned a number of topics related to human trafficking, labor, women, and other topics related to the work of the Commission in the field of human rights. She also expressed her readiness to strengthen cooperation for all areas that would serve and promote human rights. The meeting was attended by a number of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the United States of America in Muscat. On the part of the Commission, Eng. Hamoud bin Salem Al-Sunaidi, member of the Commission, Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Saadi, Director of the Legal Affairs Department, Shatha bint Abdul Majeed Al-Zadjaliya, Director of the Department of Organizations and International Relations, and Iman bint Khalid Al-Saeediya, Head of the International Relations Department of the OHRC attended the meeting.
