Oman Human Rights Commission conducted an awareness lecture for the employees of the Engineering Village including several axes such as introducing the Commission, its establishment and competencies, the mechanism of monitoring and complaint receiving and the membership of the OHRC in the regional and international organizations.
After that information was given about the rights of the child, the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and two Protocols attached to the Convention. Furthermore, a number of articles of the Omani Law on the Rights of the Child that aimed to enhance the role of the Sultanate of Oman in this regard were reviewed. In addition, the lecture talked about the basic rights of the child, such as the right to life, the right to equality and non –discrimination and the right to have his or her best interests given priority in all child-related decisions and procedures.
The role of the OHRC in protecting and promoting the rights of the child was covered. Moreover, the lecture discussed the means of awareness and education and explained some children’s publications. A group of videos was displayed to raise awareness on the risks of neglecting and abusing children. The lecture that was given by Roqia bint Badr Al-Ryamia, Head of Strategic Communication at the Commission concluded with meaningful discussions which enriched the topic.
