On the day after tomorrow (Monday), His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd bin Mahmoud al-Said, Secretary General of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers sponsors the celebration of the Sultanate of Oman represented by the OHRC of International Human Rights Day at the Civil Aviation Authority’s Hall in Muscat.
During the Celebration, six humanitarian initiatives all over the Sultanate of Oman will be honored. The initiatives have contributed to several community works including providing children with cancer and their families with free shelter, providing psychological, counseling and educational support, and monitoring the psychological, social, cultural and health challenges that young people face. The initiatives that will be honored contributed to providing a safe and supportive environment for the child’s growth. They provided the parents of the children with support in order to create a sound and healthy social and psychological environment for the child and build partnerships with the government and private institutions and civil society organizations.
In addition, they provide early intervention to deal with the disabilities that may occur to children. They raise social awareness on autism spectrum disorder and activate the role of children with autism and enhance their participation in society. They help to protect children from exposure to exploitation and enhance their confidence in themselves and their communities.
At the celebration, a film will be displayed to make known the efforts of government authorities, civil society institutions and the OHRC in promoting the rights of the child in the Sultanate of Oman. Furthermore, a theatrical performance will be presented to discuss the problem of negligence in general and child neglect in particular. It will shed light on part of these deplorable practices of negligence including the recklessness of the father and his risk to cross the valley ducts without paying attention to the weather conditions and alerts issued by the competent authorities and without taking care against the dangers that may lead the family to death.
It is noteworthy that the celebration of International Human Rights Day comes in commemoration of the day on which The UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the tenth of December 1948. The Declaration consists of a preamble and 30 articles defining a large group of fundamental rights and freedoms without any discrimination based on sex, place of residence, national, ethnic, or religious origin, language, or any other situation and it is the most prevalent document in the field of human rights worldwide.
