The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) participates in the review of the report on the Sultanate of Oman’s children’s rights in Geneva as an observer.
A delegation from (OHRC) took part in reviewing and discussing of the report inclusive of the fifth and the sixth periodic reports submitted by the Sultanate to the Committee on the Rights of the Child of the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), in Geneva. During the review of the Sultanate of Oman’s report, a number of independent international experts of the Committee on the Rights of the Child have raised some comments on the report, commending the amendments made to the regulation of the “OHRC” and the reforms implemented to enhance children’s rights, as well as positively acknowledging the steps taken by the “OHRC” to ensure the promotion and protection of children’s rights in the Sultanate of Oman. Noteworthy that the “OHRC” had previously submitted a parallel report to the Committee on the Rights of the Child in the light of its competency. Whereas reports submitted by the member states of the Convention on the Rights of the Child before the Committee on the Rights of the Child are periodically reviewed and discussed by independent international experts. National Committees concerned with the rights of the child also partake in this review as observers. Headed by Sheikh Dr. Hilal bin Saeed Al-Shidhani, Chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Organizations, the delegation of the Committee included lawyer/ Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Shanfari, Chairman of the Legal Committee, Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Saadi, Director of the Legal Affairs Department, and Amal bint Khalifa Al Shamakhiya, Head of the Digital Communication Department at the Omani Commission for Human Rights.
