As part of their collaborative efforts, the Omani Human Rights Committee and the National Bureau for Human Rights in the State of Kuwait arranged for a delegation from the Kuwaiti Bureau to visit Oman. During the visit, the delegation met with several Committee officials to gain insights into the monitoring and communication mechanisms employed, as well as other human rights-related matters.
In his meeting with the delegation, The Chairman of Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC), Honourable Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain Al Hosni, welcomed the members of the delegation and stressed the importance of these visits and joint meetings in order to strengthen and consolidate means of cooperation in the fields of human rights among the GCC countries.
During this visit, the delegation was briefed on the terms of reference of OHRC and its mechanism of work. The mechanism used by the Commission to monitor and receive communications, the legal procedures in verifying and classifying communications, as well as the role played by the Commission in dealing with international human rights organizations and responding to their reports were also presented.
The delegation then visited the headquarters of the General Federation of Oman Workers, where it met several directors and staff of the Federation. During the meeting, a briefing was given regarding the terms of reference and working mechanism of the Federation, in addition to the cooperation with the Oman Human Rights Committee. On the other hand, the Federation’s effort in resolving and settling labor issues were discussed, in addition to defining the mechanism used in monitoring and dealing with labor communications and complaints.
The delegation of the National Diwan for Human Rights of the State of Kuwait comprised of Ms. Mona Al-Attiyah, member of the Board of Directors of the Bureau and Rapporteur of the Complaints and Grievances Committee, Counselor Hamdan Al-Namshan, member of the Complaints and Grievances Committee, and Ms. Alanoud Al-Otaibi, Director of the Specialized Committees Department and Secretary of Complaints and Grievances.
