The OHRC Establishes Fact-Finding Team Investigating Deaths of Several People, Including Children, in North Sharqia Governorate
The OHRC has established a fact-finding team to investigate the deaths of several individuals, primarily children, in the North Sharqiyah Governorate due to the impact of the recent exceptional weather conditions experienced in the Sultanate. The appointed team is required to submit its report within a timeframe not exceeding one month from the date of its formation.

The formation of this team is grounded on various competencies delineated in the system promulgated by Royal Decree No. (57/2022). These competencies encompass following up on the protection of human rights and freedoms in the Sultanate of Oman in accordance with the Basic Law of the State, applicable laws, and international covenants and agreements ratified by the Sultanate of Oman. Additionally, the competencies include monitoring human rights violations and abuses, aiding in their resolution and settlement, receiving complaints within the realm of human rights, studying them, and providing recommendations to the relevant authorities. Furthermore, the OHRC offers advice to governmental entities on matters concerning human rights and freedoms and contributes to the preparation of reports addressing these subjects.

The OHRC released a statement urging the relevant entities to implement all essential measures to prevent the recurrence of such tragic incidents within the parameters of applicable laws and conventions ratified by the Sultanate of Oman.

Additionally, it called upon all individuals to exercise utmost caution and prioritize the best interests of the child, thereby safeguarding the fundamental right to life, which forms the cornerstone of all human rights.
