A delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission, led by Mr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Owisi, a member of the Commission, participated in the 57th Session of the Human Rights Council and its associated events, held at the Palace of Nations in Geneva.
The participation aimed to enhance engagement with international mechanisms concerned with human rights protection, keep abreast of global priority topics, and learn about best practices for national institutions to effectively promote and protect human rights.
The delegation attended several key sessions, including the interactive dialogue on the report of the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, initial consultations on using education as a tool to combat racism and xenophobia, general discussions on quality education for peace and tolerance, interactive dialogues with the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, and the expert group on the right to development and establishing a democratic and fair international system.
Additionally, the delegation attended side events, including discussions on protecting women and girls from violence, and on effective participation in development.
The delegation included Minister Plenipotentiary Aqeel bin Alawi Baomar, a member of the Commission, lawyer Maimouna bint Saeed Al Salmiya, a member of the Commission, and Ms. Iman bint Khalid Al Saidiya, Head of the International Relations Section at Oman Human Rights Commission.
