The Oman Human Rights Commission, comprising its members and staff, expresses its sincere appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the issuance of Royal Decree No. (47/2026) restructuring the Oman Human Rights Commission.
This Royal Decree constitutes a pivotal measure in strengthening the institutional architecture of the Commission. It reflects the ongoing national commitment to enhancing the Commission’s mandate and ensuring its independence, thereby enabling it to fulfill its role more effectively in the promotion and protection of human rights within the Sultanate of Oman. This initiative aligns fully with the Basic Statute of the State, Oman’s obligations under international human rights treaties to which it is a party, and the relevant national legislation.
The reorganization introduced by this Decree represents a significant advancement in the Commission’s institutional development, bringing its mandate, responsibilities, and operational mechanisms into closer conformity with the Paris Principles (Principles relating to the Status of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights).
This alignment is anticipated to further enhance the Commission’s institutional capacity, improve its operational effectiveness, and support its engagement with national, regional, and international human rights bodies.
The Oman Human Rights Commission reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights in the Sultanate of Oman, guided by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, in the pursuit of making Oman a nation of security, safety, and respect for human rights and freedoms.
