The Oman Human Rights Commission Conducts Field Visits to Several Hospitals and Health and Social Care Institutions in Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah Governorates

The Oman Human Rights Commission carried out a series of field visits to the Governorates of North Al Batinah and Al Buraimi through a delegation headed by Professor Rashid bin Hamad Al Balushi, Chairman of the Oman Human Rights Commission.

The visits covered a number of hospitals and health and social care institutions.

During their visit to Al Buraimi Governorate, the team met with His Excellency Sayyid Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed Al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi. The meeting included an introduction to the Commission, its mandates, and the role entrusted to it in conducting visits to institutions concerned with human rights in fulfillment of its statutory functions.

The discussion also addressed avenues for cooperation to support the Commission’s efforts in the protection and promotion of human rights.

As part of the visits conducted by the Commission in the Governorates of North Al Batinah and Al Buraimi, the delegation carried out a field visit to Sohar Hospital, where they met with the Director General of Health Services in the Governorate, as well as a number of hospital administrators. During the meeting, a presentation was delivered on the hospital, highlighting key medical statistics handled by its staff, in addition to aspects related to health rights and the services provided to all segments of society, particularly health services for persons with disabilities and older persons.

The delegation also visited Al Salwa Health Care Center in Sohar, which is considered one of the specialized centers providing medical, psychological, and social services for the rehabilitation of persons with substance use disorders and their reintegration into society, in partnership and coordination with the private sector. Through this visit, the team emphasized the right of patients within this category to receive the necessary treatment and rehabilitation to enable them to become active members of society.

The team also conducted a visit to Al Buraimi Hospital, where they reviewed the most significant achievements realized in the health sector in Al Buraimi Governorate during the recent period, as well as the scale of efforts exerted by specialized medical personnel to ensure that members of the community receive health services with high efficiency. The visit also included discussions on the key challenges affecting this vital sector and highlighted the importance of safeguarding the human right to access health services and ensuring their availability to both citizens and residents without discrimination.
As part of the visit schedule in Al Buraimi Governorate, the Commission’s team visited Al Wafa Center for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, where the team toured the center’s facilities. The center is regarded as one of the specialized institutions providing services to persons with disabilities in a manner that ensures their rights to education, rehabilitation, and training. The team also listened to the main challenges and development opportunities.

It is worth noting that these visits are carried out in fulfillment of the Commission’s role as stipulated in Article (11) of Royal Decree No. (57/2022) reorganizing the Commission, which provides for conducting field visits to prisons, places of detention, hospitals, and labor camps, and monitoring human rights conditions therein.
