The Oman Human Rights Commission highly values the gracious Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq – may Allah protect and preserve him – regarding the establishment of a new sector at the level of an Undersecretary within the structure of the Ministry of Social Development, dedicated to the affairs of persons with disabilities.
This will ensure direct supervision of this vital sector, address the challenges it faces, guarantee the empowerment and effective inclusion of this group in society, and facilitate their access to education at all levels.
These Royal Directives reaffirm His Majesty’s special attention – may Allah support him – to the rights of persons with disabilities as an integral part of human rights, and strengthen the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to protecting this group and enhancing their participation in society, in line with the principles of equality and non-discrimination.
The Commission also values the issuance of Royal Decree No. (2025/78) promulgating the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law, which constitutes a qualitative addition to the national legislative framework and reinforces national, regional, and international efforts to combat this scourge that represents a grave violation of human rights.
The Commission affirms that these Royal Directives and the Royal Decree enhance the human rights journey in the Sultanate of Oman by ensuring broader protection and care for persons with disabilities, and by providing a legal and legislative environment that safeguards and ensures justice for victims of trafficking in persons.
May the Almighty preserve His Majesty, grant him abundant health and well-being, and perpetuate upon Oman the blessings of security and prosperity under his wise leadership.
