NHRC Receives Complaints from Shura Council Candidates

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) received number of complaints from Shura Candidates who were not listed in the preliminary lists of the candidates of Shura Council membership; which was published last week. The plaintiffs claimed that they have met all the membership requirements; this has raised questions about the absence of their names in the preliminary lists. They also mentioned that they were contacted by the offices of governors to further discuss the matter. Although the law and regulation of Shura Council elections 2013 did not stipulate the right of candidates to appeal or file a plaint when their names are not listed in the preliminary lists, the plaintiffs were advised to file their plaints in the elections’ supreme committee. In this regard, NHRC contacted related authorities as per its jurisdiction stated in article 7 of the Royal Decree No. 124/2008.
