A delegation from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) participated in the international conference on the role of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in promoting and protecting human rights in the Arab World. The conference was organized by the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar in cooperation with the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Arab League, and the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions from 13 to 14 January 2016 in Doha. The Conference aimed to explore the methods of the United Nations for Human Rights, and the role of the High Commissioner for human rights in the Arab World especially within the context of the current situation in the region. In addition, the conference discussed the aspects of cooperation with Conventions’ committees in the UN and how to improve the procedures related to following up the implementation of the Universal Periodic Review recommendations.
Representatives and experts from various governmental, civil society, regional human rights institutions participated in the conference, as well as experts from treaty bodies, special rapporteurs, and representatives from the High Commissioner offices in the Arab region.
