OHRC, represented by Eng. Hamoud bin Salem Al Sunaidi, a member of OHRC, participated in the Samarkand Forum for Human Rights, which was held via video conference. The conference, organized by the National Center for Human Rights in the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the participation of (50) speakers from (15) countries during the period from 12-13 August 2020, discussed the draft United Nations International Convention on the Rights of Youth, developed on the initiative of the Chairman of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which was proposed at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly. The conference also discussed the important and positive role of youth in sustainable development, youth rights and education, crisis prevention and ensuring gender equality, realizing human rights and building a culture of peace, which constitute the core of the United Nations Youth Strategy.
The forum, which is held every two years, aims to enhance international and regional cooperation in the field of human rights, discuss issues, existing international and regional tools and mechanisms to protect and promote youth rights, as well as the role of youth in implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Global Program for Human Rights Education.
