Oman Human Rights Commission holds its Second Meeting of the Fourth Annual Session
The OHRC held its second meeting of the Fourth Annual Session under the chairmanship of the Honorable Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain al Hosni, Chairman of the Commission and in the presence of all its members and its Secretary in General. During the meeting, the Commission discussed the new competencies and responsibilities granted to it by Royal Decree No. (57/2022) including complete independence in practicing its work and competencies. Furthermore, during the meeting, the Commission approved forming a teamwork chaired by the Deputy Chairman and the membership of a number of the members and officials of the Commission to prepare the required conception of the new regulation of the Commission under the content of the Royal Decree which stipulated the restructuring the OHRC. Moreover, the meeting discussed the ongoing preparations for conducting a workshop during the period 25-27 of September on the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights which was recently ratified by the Sultanate of Oman. This aimed at following up on the implementing the provisions of these conventions, spreading their contents on a larger scale and achieving more development for their enforcement mechanism. During the meeting, the commission also reviewed the achievements of the annual plan of this year, and what will be implemented during the next period of the Commission’s work in the field of human rights.
