A delegation from the OHRC took part in the works of the international conference organized by the National Institution for Human Rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain titled “Sanctions and Alternative Measures Law: A Qualitative Experience in Criminal Legislation” with a large regional and international participation.
More than 300 participants took part including the trustees of the Arab Human Rights Observatory, the Arab Network of National Institutions for Human Rights, some representatives of national human rights institutions members of the ANNIHR, representatives of the national human rights institutions at the Executive Office of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institution, in addition to representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations and those who work in the field of human rights.
The Conference discussed how to apply the Sanctions and Alternative Measures Law, the authorities concerned with the enforcement of the Law and the role of the supporting entities in executing the Law, in addition to the nature of the works that are assigned to the convicted persons, Sanctions and Alternative Measures Law and the efforts of the different authorities exerted in this field, in addition to rehabilitation and training programs for persons sentenced to alternative sanctions and their enforcement procedures, development of the judiciary work system, how to enhance the procedures of the criminal justice, the application of open prisons system and its role in integrating the beneficiaries of the law into society as well as the role of national human rights institutions in follow-up on the enforcement of the Sanctions and Alternative Measures Law.
The OHRC was represented at the Conference by the following members: Engineer/ Hamoud bin Salim Al-Senidi, Advocate/ Maimona bint Saeed Al-Solimania, and Ayda bint Shames Al- Hashmia.
