Oman Human Rights Commission Implements an Awareness Program to Eliminate Children Neglect and Abuse in the Governorate of Musandam

During this week, the OHRC in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Social Development and the Omani Women’s Association implements an awareness program to eliminate children neglect and abuse in the Governorate of Musandam. The program will include three lectures in Wilayat of Khasab, Dibba and Bukha to raise awareness of different groups of society on issues of children neglect and abuse, in addition to displaying awareness films explaining part of the issues monitored by the OHRC over the last period. Furthermore, hundreds of printed awareness publications will be distributed to clarify the rights of the children, law articles related to the rights of the child, and introduce various authorities concerned with protecting and promoting the rights of the child in the Sultanate of Oman and means of communication with them. In addition, children’s stories will be distributed to raise the children’s awareness. During the program, the national mechanisms of promoting human rights, definitions and concepts related to human rights, mechanisms of promoting and protecting human rights, procedures of monitoring and receiving complaints, and means of raising awareness and education on the rights of the child will be explained. Mechanisms of protecting the child from abuse and neglect, indicators showing the child’s exposure to abuse, and the cases that child protection committees deal with will be illustrated.
