Within the framework of cooperation and coordination between both sides, a delegation from the OHRC headed by The Honorable Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain Al-Hosni Chairman of the OHRC visited the headquarters of the General Federation of Oman Workers. The delegation was received by Mr./ Nabhan bin Ahmed al-Battashi, the Chairman of the board of directors of the General Federation of Oman Workers, members of the Board of Directors, and the employees of the Federation.
During the visit, the delegation wandered and got acquainted with departments and sections and their work mechanism. After that, the specialists in the Federation displayed a visual presentation on the memberships of the Federation in the regional and international organizations, programs and activities implemented by the Federation, the number of labor associations and unions as well as their distribution, in addition to labor issues and legislation, collective agreements and the Federation’s role in following up on women and youth’s activities in the field of trade-union action.
The delegation of the OHRC listened to an explanation on the mechanism implemented by the Federation to address the issue of laid-off workers in cooperation with the competent authorities and labor cases related to human rights including issues related to the conditions of entitlement to the employment benefit, litigation periods for non-Omani workers, some cases related to domestic workers, child labor, and injuries that might occur in the work environment. The Federation also introduced its efforts in the field of care for women, youth and other working groups and following up on their rights in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.
At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed upon forming a joint teamwork between the Federation and the OHRC to support the existing cooperation between both sides. The teamwork will regularly meet to discuss any mutual issues in order to serve the interests of workers and human rights.
During the visit, the delegation consisted of a number of the OHRC’s members, and the Secretary-General, in addition to a group of directors of departments and offices and personnel of the OHRC.
