The OHRC provides an introduction to its work and efforts in the field of children’s rights in the “Children First” Association
In the attendance of H.H. Dr. Mona bint Fahad Al-Said, President of the “Children First” Association, The OHRC presented an introduction to its work and efforts in the field of children’s rights to the Board of Directors of the Association, at the headquarters of the Children’s Public Library. During the meeting, the terms of reference of OHRC, its works and efforts in monitoring and receiving communications, awareness-raising and human rights education as well as the definition of national mechanisms for the protection and promotion of children’s rights were reviewed. Additionally, awareness-raising and education programmes implemented by the Ministry of Social Development and the OHRC to reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect were also introduced. Moreover, various articles of the Children’s Code and the Convention on the Rights of the Child were reviewed, in addition to the cases dealt with by the child protection committees. During the program, awareness films were played explaining some of the issues that have been monitored during the past period, and printed awareness publications were distributed explaining the rights guaranteed to children, and introducing the various parties concerned with the protection and promotion of the Rights of the Child in the Sultanate of Oman. The meeting was attended by Yasser bin Saeed Al Dhuhli member of the OHRC, Saeed bin Salem Al Nomani, secretary general of the OHRC, and a number of specialists from the Ministry of Social Development and the Oman Human Rights commission.
