A delegation from the Oman Human Rights Commission headed by Honorable Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain Al Hosni, the Commission’s chairman, participated in the annual meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. The Commission’s participation included attending the meeting of the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions, the meeting of regional networks, a workshop on the role of national human rights institutions in preventing conditions conducive to displacement, and the exchange of knowledge on promoting the rights of women and girls.
The Commission made a presentation on the efforts made by the Sultanate in this regard, the meeting of the General Assembly of the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions during which the new elected president and deputy were presented for the coming period, and the adoption of amendments to the Alliance Law. The delegation also attended the annual conference of the Global Alliance on the human rights of migrants.
The Commission also participated in the first meeting of the Executive Commission of the Arab Network for Human Rights for the year 2019, during which the network’s annual report for 2018 was monitored, and the follow-up to the outcomes of the last general assembly meeting held in Cairo. The meeting also discussed the network conference to be held on the challenges of national human rights institutions regarding International accreditation and reviewed the network’s action plan for 2019.
On the sidelines of the participation, Honorable Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain Al Hosni met Amna Bou Ayyash, President of the Moroccan National Council for Human Rights. He congratulated her on her new position and talked about ways of cooperation, exchange of experiences, training and rehabilitation in the aspects of human rights.
The Commission delegation included Dr. Hessa bint Abdullah Al Badia, member of the Commission, Shatha bint Abdul Majeed Al Zadjali, Director of the Organizations and International Relations, Saeed bin Saleh Al Abri, Director of the Public Relations and Information Department, and Salem bin Saif Al Shuaili, Director of the Commission’s Chairman office.
