During the period from 15 to 20 July 2023, the OHRC organized an awareness program in the Governorate of Dhofar. The program included holding lectures to introduce the OHRC and its work mechanism, besides conducting activities for children. This is in addition to visits to a number of civil society institutions and the distribution of many publications.
The program included a lecture at the University of Dhofar and the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Complex attended by a number of faculty and students at the university, a number of employees of the Cultural Complex and the general public. The lecture was presented by Ruqayya bint Badr Al-Riyamiya and Mona bint Nasser Al-Salhiya , it aimed to introduce the OHRC and its mechanism of work in awareness raising, education, monitoring and receiving communications ,as well as dealing with international reports on human rights.
Furthermore, the program included a workshop for children entitled ” Color and Learn Your Rights”, which was carried out in cooperation with the General Directorate of Culture, Sports and Youth at the Children’s Library at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Complex in Salalah. In cooperation with the “My Childhood is Safe” initiative, cultural and awareness competitions for children were also carried out in the Aqad Public Park and the Salalah Grand Mall Complex. The competitions were presented by MS. Amal bint Khalifa Al-Shamakhiya and Ms. Hanan bint Mubarak Al-Batashiya.
Moreover, the program included visits by a number of civil society associations, where a team from the OHRC visited Bahja Association for Orphans and the Oman Cancer Society in the governorate. During the implementation of the awareness program, the OHRC’s various publications were distributed to a large number of institutions in the Governorate of Dhofar.
