The OHRC Concludes its Participation in the Arab Network Conference in Cairo
The OHRC concluded its participation in the annual international conference of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions “ANNHRI “, held on the sidelines of the ANNHRI 20th General Assembly, in Cairo, Egypt. The conference was attended by more than 300 participants representing national human rights institutions in the Arab countries, international and regional organizations, civil society organizations and experts, in addition to the partners of the Arab Network from the OHCHR, the United Nations Development Program, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Arab Human Rights Committee, the Arab Institute for Human Rights, and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions. In its final recommendations, the annual international conference called for the need for the ANNHRI to continue its programs to enhance the capacities of national institutions. It highlighted the need for increased interaction with treaty committees, ongoing awareness programs to promote human rights culture at the national level based on the programs and needs of each institution, and efforts to strengthen the independence of NHRIs. Participants also recommended the importance of continuing to collaborate with OHCHR to strengthen and build the capacity of NHRIs, including preparing for the different stages of the accreditation process and implementing the recommendations of the GANHRI Subcommittee on Accreditation.
