An OHRC Delegation Participates in the 28th Annual Meeting of the Asia Pacific Forum of NHRIs in New Delhi
A delegation from the OHRC participated in the 28th Annual Meeting of the Asia Pacific Forum of NHRIs and its accompanying conference, which was held in cooperation between the Asia Pacific Forum and the National Human Rights Institution “NHRIs “ of India in New Delhi, India. During the meeting, they discussed issues of common interest, reviewed and discussed the report of the Subcommittee on Accreditation of NHRIs that are members of the Forum. Furthermore, the participants presented the efforts and work of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions “ GANHRIs” to support member institutions from the region, the efforts of the OHCHR in supporting NHRIs, and the OHRC efforts in protecting and promoting human rights in the Asia-Pacific region in general. The following day, the subsequent conference, which coincides with the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of NHRIs and the Paris Principles, was held. It  featured a sub-theme focused on the environment and climate change. The event brought together members of the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF), civil society, government representatives, academics, and UN agencies from the Asia-Pacific region. Its purpose was to facilitate the exchange of best practices aimed at assisting communities in responding to human rights challenges arising from environmental damage and climate change. The OHRC was represented by a delegation headed by Sheikh Dr. Hilal bin Saeed Al-Shidhani, OHRC Chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Organizations. The members of the delegation included Ms. Aida bint Shams Al-Hashimiya, an OHRCmember, Ms. Iman bint Khalid Al-Saidiya, Head of the International Relations Department, and Mr. Suleiman bin Dawood Al-Hamdani from the Information Technology Department of the OHRC.
