The OHRC held its first meeting for the first annual session of the 5th term under the chairmanship of the OHRC Chairman Professor Dr./ Rashid bin Hamad Al Balushi, and in the presence of all its members and the Secretary of its Technical Secretariat. During the meeting, the steps that were implemented to upgrade the OHRC’s classification to Class (A) in the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions were reviewed. The awareness and education programs being implemented during the current period, including the program to protect children from neglect and abuse, which is implemented by OHRC in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development, in partnership with Omani Women Associations, the program to introduce the Commission and the national, regional and international mechanisms for protecting human rights, which is implemented by the OHRC in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, and the children’s rights awareness program in cooperation with the Ministry of Education were presented. In addition, during the meeting, the formation of the OHRC’s specialized committees and their competencies was discussed, also several topics related to the Commission’s work and human rights in general were presented and discussed.
