At the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, an OHRC delegation, led by Lawyer Saud bin Saleh Al-Mawali,the OHRC Vice-Chairman, represented the Committee during sessions to review the Sultanate of Oman’s national report on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) .
Throughout their participation, the OHRC delegation convened with His Excellency Vladimir Stefanov, Head of the NHRIs Section at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights “OHCHR”.
They provided an overview of the OHRC and its work system while delving into ongoing initiatives, particularly focusing on the preparations for the accreditation dossier, slated for submission in May 2024. The OHCHR specialists warmly embraced the OHRC newly instituted work system, as outlined in Royal Decree No. (57/2022). Emphasizing the imperative to fortify the roles of NHRIs both domestically and globally. Additionally, the OHRC delegation convened with the head of the section of the Committee of the Group on the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance “ICPPED”.
During this meeting, information was shared regarding the ICPPED and strategies for its implementation. Furthermore, the role of NHRIs in following up its implementation was clarified.
The OHRC delegation comprised Aida bint Shams Al-Hashimiya and Dr. Yahya bin Mohammed Al-Hinai, both members of the OHRC, along with Shatha bint Abdul Majeed Al-Zadjaliya, Director of the OHRC Department of International Organizations and Relations.
