A delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission, headed by Professor Rashid bin Hamad Al Balushi, Chairman of the Commission, participated in the (29th) Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions in the Kingdom of Thailand.
The meeting discussed the tasks and work of the forum during the past year and the new the chairmanship of the forum was elected, as it was decided that the National Center for Human Rights in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will assume the new chairmanship, and the National Human Rights Commission in Indonesia would be the Vice President.
The role of national human rights institutions with regard to topics relating to gender equality, climate change and human rights defenders was also discussed.
During the meeting, Dr. Saleh bin Hamad Al-Brashdi, a member of Oman Human Rights Commission, presented a paper on the role of Oman Human Rights Commission in addressing the effects of climate change in the Sultanate of Oman and the resulting climate tension, noting the Commission’s role and actions to ensure the protection of human rights.
Mrs. Shatha Abdul Majeed Al Zadjali Director of International Organizations and Relations also participated in the executive staff meeting accompanying the annual meeting, which aimed to exchange experiences between executive staff and propose some important topics to improve and develop administrative work in human rights institutions.
The participating delegation included Dr. Saleh bin Hamad Al Barashdi, a member of the Commission, lawyer Mohammed bin Ali Al Marzouqi, a member of the Commission, and Mrs. Shatha bint Abdul Majeed Al Zadjali, Director of International Organizations and Relations.
