During the opening of the workshop, Prof. Rashid bin Hamad al-Balushi, Chairman of the Commission, delivered a speech in which he mentioned that this workshop is one of the key milestones in the Commission’s journey and the advancement of human rights in the Sultanate of Oman. He emphasized that the guide produced from this workshop will contribute to showcasing the Country’s achievements and its implementation of international standards in the protection and promotion of human rights. He also noted that this guide will help highlight the progress made in the field of human rights in Oman in general and will provide practical examples of human rights indicators in this new era led by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq – may Allah protect him.
He pointed out the importance of cooperation among various entities to produce this guide on human rights indicators, which will serve as an important reference and source for everyone when collecting data and disseminating information related to human rights in the Sultanate of Oman. Dr. Jamal bin Eid al-Khudhoori, a member of the Commission and Head of the Executive Team, stated that the outcomes of this workshop will have an international impact.
In his speech, he reviewed the strategic approach used in preparing the guide and the work plan, which relied on the United Nations methodology. He also highlighted the mechanisms for extracting features, determining the foundations, preparing templates for the guide, setting indicators, and analyzing the current reality.
Dr. Kawthar bint Thani al-Khaifiya, an Expert in Strategic Planning, provided an overview of human rights indicators, human rights characteristics, measures, and standards.
It is worth noting that this workshop aims to produce the Human Rights Indicators Guide, which will contribute to building the national human rights strategy, as well as to present a draft of the human rights indicators for discussion and enriching its components.
