A delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission, headed by lawyer Saud bin Salih Al-Maawali, Vice-Chairman of the Commission, participated in the Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Meeting was attended by representatives of national human rights institutions from various countries, as well as international and regional organizations concerned with the protection and promotion of human rights.
The Meeting began with a series of regional meetings, including the Asia-Pacific Forum, the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions, the African Network of National Human Rights Institutions, and the Network of National Human Rights Institutions of the Americas.
The delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission participated as an observer in the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions.
The delegation also took part in the annual conference of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, which aimed to promote gender equality and the rights of women and girls. The conference discussed ways to enhance the role of national human rights institutions in protecting women’s rights and empowering them in various sectors.
The event included several panel discussions on best practices and global initiatives to promote gender equality.
Additionally, the delegation participated in a side symposium on the role of national human rights institutions in addressing threats of forced displacement. The symposium was organized in partnership with the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions and a number of Arab national human rights institutions.
The delegation included Ms. Aida bint Shamis Al-Hashmiya, Member of the Commission; Counselor Jamal bin Salim Al-Nabhani, Member of the Commission; and Mrs. Shatha bint Abdul Majeed Al-Zadjaliya, Director of the Department of Organizations and International Relations at Oman Human Rights Commission.
