Raising Awareness on Children’s Rights and Citizenship Values in Al-Wusta Governorate
The Oman Human Rights Commission and the “Children First” Association, in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of Al-Wusta and the Wali of Duqm, organized an awareness program titled “Values and Belonging” at the Oman Hall in the building of the Special Economic Zone Authority in Duqm.
 
This initiative is part of the commitment to creating a safe and sustainable environment that enhances children’s rights and provides them with the opportunity to grow in a setting that respects their dignity and humanity.
 
The event was sponsored by His Excellency Sheikh Badr bin Nasser bin Mansoor Al-Farsi, Wali of Duqm. Its aim was to promote a culture of human rights and strengthen the values of citizenship and belonging, while highlighting children’s rights and mechanisms for their protection.
 
The Program targeted various segments of the society, including students, parents, social and psychological specialists, and professionals working in educational, health, and legal sectors, to equip them with knowledge about local laws and international legislation.
 
Dr. Yahya bin Mohammed Al-Hinai, head of the “Values and Belonging” Awareness Program, emphasized that raising future generations is a shared responsibility, with the family playing a leading role in educating children about authentic national values. He also stressed the importance of protecting children from abuse and neglect, noting that the program aims to promote the principles of citizenship and national belonging among children while educating them about their rights and duties.
 
The first presentation discussed the efforts and programs of Oman Human Rights Commission to enhance and protect children’s rights, delivered by Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Saadi, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Commission.
 
The second presentation, titled “Raising the Omani Child on the Values of Voluntary Work and Community Service to Foster Active Citizenship, Strengthen National Identity, and Promote Social Welfare,” was presented by Dr. Majda bint Talib Al-Hinai, member of the Children First Association.
