A delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission, headed by Dr. Yahya bin Mohammed Al Hanai, the member of the Commission, participated in the Opening Dialogue on “Business and Human Rights at the Arab Region” organized by National Human Rights Commission of Qatar, United Nations Development Programme, in partnership with the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, the United Nations Business and Human Rights working Group, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), under the theme ” Charting a Path for Responsible Business Practices in the Arab States Region”, in Qatar’s Capital, Doha.
The Dialogue aimed to raise awareness about Global trends in implementing the Guiding Principles of the United Nations, identify the challenges and opportunities available to enhance the responsible business practices in Arab States, and to establish a permanent network to facilitate the exchange of opinions and information among various industries and sectors.
During the Dialogue, emphasis was on the progress made and the ongoing efforts by the states and companies at the Arab Region in implementing UN’s Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. There was also praise for the initiatives led by Gulf Cooperation Council countries through the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labor to promote these principles in areas related to labor markets. The importance of strengthening efforts to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and continuing multi-stakeholder dialogue on the topic in the Arab region was highlighted.
The delegation included Dr. Jamal bin Eid Al Khadhoori, the member of the Commission, and Ms. Maryam bint Mohammed Al Balushi, Director of Quality and Planning Department at Oman Human Rights Commission.
